Dollface Cosmetics: Vanity Palette Review

A few months ago, I ordered the Vanity Palette from Dollface Cosmetic’s website and posted my Dollface Cosmetics: Vanity Palette Box Opening entry where I promised a review about it. I’ve been testing the product since I opened the box which led me to confirm some theories I had before I purchased it. I decided to create a look since that’s the purpose of eyeshadows rather than test it on my hand. Additionally, the skin on my hand isn’t the same as the skin around my eyes.

To start, I used a cream eye color base to make the eyeshadow powder last longer and to make it more vivid. Eyshadow bases are the colors closest to your eyelid’s natural color. (1) The first color I used is a shimmery sunshine color which I placed in the inner corner of my eyelids. (2) The second color I used is a shimmery bronze on the highest part of my eyelid (right on the ball). (3) For the third color, I used a mixture of a dark matte brown mixed with matte black. I spreaded this on the edges of my eyes and halfway through the crease. (4 ) The last color I applied is a white eyeshadow for the browbone. Afterwards I added a brown liquid eyeliner and a black mascara.

The result looks great!

So after using the Dollface Vanity Pallette here are the pros and cons:

PROS: - Affordable price. - Perfect for beginners practicing color combinations and application. - The Vanity Palette has an extra white eyeshadow the size of a 5 peso coin at the bottom row. I use white eyeshadow on my browbones with every look and I’ll most likely use this color the most. - Versatile collection of colors for almost any look. The Vanity Palette has a set of neutral, pastel and vivid colors. - Shimmery and matte textures on almost any color. To allow more depth to my your eye make-up, some areas need shimmery textures while others need matte. - Safe to use. I didn’t get any allergies or itch.

CONS: - Tendency to look sallow (sometimes this depends on the lighting). - Has a tendency to abrade/break easily

To make your Dollface Cosmetics eyeshadows more vivid on your lids, I recommend the following:

- Use synthetic fibre brushes since natural brushes tend to absorb more of the makeup before it reaches your skin. I tried applying Dollface’s eyeshadow using natural brushes but the color don’t seem too visible compared to when I use synthetic fibre brushes.

- Use a cream base to keep the powder from falling off or being swept off during application.

Dollface Cosmetics  is a make-up brand based in Cebu. Until recently, it was only available via its online store http://dollfacecosmetics.com.ph/ and distributors. However, with the success of the brand, Dollface Cosmetics has become available in Crossings, Glorietta and Pure Beauty, Serendra.

Dollface Cosmetics Vanity Palette Box Opening

 I’m starting to take on fashion and beauty more seriously and since I need to practice on my eyeshadow application, I recently I ordered the Dollface Cosmetic’s Vanity Palette.

Dollface has a lot of options available from a small group of neutral palettes to a stunning 88-color palette. Out of all the options I was torn between the Vanity Palette or the 78 color palette. I don’t really want the 12 lipsticks that the Vanity Palette offers but I do want the highlight, blush and contour shades. I ended up buying the Vanity Palette because I have olive skin and being a Winter, deep vivid colors work best for my skin tone.

The Vanity Palette costs P1000 but of course I had to pay for the shipping so my total cost was P1085. I was kind of delayed paying because I’ve been really busy. Two days after paying I asked when I should be expecting my order and didn’t receive a reply. I was starting to feel scared but the next day…

My package arrived at my doorstep via Air 21 (which is the most practical logistics company IHMO).

After opening the plastic, I was greeted by a… suman… kidding haha.. it’s a bubble wrapped box. After unwrapping 1 meter of bubble wrap, there was another layer I needed to remove.

Dollface is bubble wrap crazy.  After unwrapping the 2nd sheet, there was another layer of bubble wrap to take off. I’m happy they’re making this much effort because I’ve heard that their palettes easily break and since logistics companies usually throw the packages without regards for what’s in it, I think it’s better to be safe and go crazy with bubble wrap than be sorry.

Also, I’m not so sure if I should be disappointed that they’ve mispelled my name or not. Haha

Finally! The box! I have to hand it to them, their packaging is stunning. But guess what’s inside. :3

That’s right! More bubble wrap! … and my palette.  I’m starting to think I bought a set of bubble wrap with a palette as an accessory.

So after removing the bubble wrap, the palette was also wrapped in a thin plastic cover and was well protected from scratches and prints. Notice their logo on the lower-right corner? Cute, huh?

Inside is the beautiful display of colors protected by a hard plastic.

All in all, I can say that I’m very impressed that Dollface does a great job ensuring that their product arrive in one piece and that product’s newness is preserved. I also appreciate their effort when it comes to packaging. I’m not so happy that I didn’t receive a text reply regarding my package but I can let it slide because I was delayed paying.

As for the product’s performance, I’ll leave that for another post.

MAKE UP 101 (BASIC SET) : What concealer to use, How to choose the concealers

Target Market: Beginners, Nerds & Geeks, Filipinas
Looks: Natural, School, Everyday, Office

1.)   WHAT ARE CONCEALERS

a.    A concealer is a type of make-up used to hide imperfections on the skin. It’s mainly used to lighten up the under eye area but it can also be used to cover up other skin imperfections like pimples, sun spots, insect bites, etc. For people who have tattoos, there may be instances when you need to hide them and the concealer is the right make up tool to help you accomplish just that. However for pimples, note that you can only hide the redness and not the bump. If the pimple is new, it’s really difficult to conceal it as compared to camouflaging it when it’s already a little ripe because by that time it’ll also be a little more flat.

b.    Concealers come in many forms: pencil, sticks, tubes but I prefer the ones that come in creams & compacts. Based on experience and depending on the quality (I guess), pencils can be difficult to blend and you tend to tug on your skin too much because it’s composition is quite hard, for the ones that come in tubes it’s often difficult to get or push out just the right amount of product and since they come in liquid form, it’s too runny so you tend to get a thin coverage at some areas. But if your concealer often cakes, you should opt for a liquid concealer because it has more moisture. However, all these are based on my experience and the make ups that I’ve tried. If you guys find any pencil or liquid concealer that works best for you, that’s really great!

2.)   HOW TO CHOOSE A CONCEALER:

a.    First, you shouldn’t be allergic to your concealer’s formula.

b.    Your concealer should also be able to give you superior coverage without being heavy or suffocating on your skin. ( Be warned that there are many concealers out there which can provide good coverage but has this thick, heavy formula.)

c.    You should be able to get a good coverage for a small amount.

*** Most good concealers out there are quite pricey but they should be able to live up to their price and last you around 1-2 years.

*** Bye the way, concealers only have a shelf life of around 2 years and avoid exposing them to extreme temperatures because it will really affect the quality.

d.    The concealer should blend really well and have a great natural finish.

e.    Just because undereye circles are dark doesn’t mean you should choose a darker shade of concealer. Darker shades will only make your undereyes darker so you should opt for a concealer that’s 1 shade lighter than your skintone.

f.      Concealers should come in different shades. For example, MAC has NC 15, 20, 25, 30, 37 or NW 20, 25 etc. for concealers and there are more numbers than the ones I mentioned. Also the higher the number, the darker the shade will be.

 NC basically means Neutral Cool and NW means Neutral Warm. NWs have a pinkish tone to them and they’re usually darker than NCs. A friend of mine who works at MAC recommends using an NW to neutralize dark undereye circles even if you’re an NC. This is because NCs often leave your undereyes greenish since NCs are yellowish and our eyebags are bluish. For most people, NWs work best despite undertones.

*** If you want to know if you’re an NC or an NW, I suggest asking the make-up artist or salesperson at the counter to examine your skintone. Basically for your undereyes just avoid making raccoon eyes or inverted panda eyes.

Interesting Day

Hmm… where to begin? 

 I’ve been very lazy lately, wallowing and thinking… just thinking. Well, I learned a lot. I found my mistakes, noticed some bad qualities about myself… there are people who pointed out my bad qualities (there’s quite a good number, actually) some are worth changing for, some I don’t think so ’cause if I did then I’d only be trying to please them. They can hate me, ok lang, pero when my true friends hate me, dun ako mag-aalala. A lot of people really hated me ’cause of what I did to Joc. Ah well, I know what I did wrong naman na and if they choose to hate me, I’m ok with it.

Anyway, today I had a VTR, I arrived at the wrong building so I had to rush to the right one. Thankfully, I made it. It was for a mouthwash but I can’t expose other details since I signed a partial contract stating that I can’t share any detail about it.

When I arrived home from the VTR, Mom was going to Megamall so I decided to come along. I pleaded to have merienda since I really didn’t have any breakfast or lunch and VTR acting is kind of tiring. We tried Orchard Road since it was new and a good number of people were eating there.

Teh Tarik (tea+condensed milk)

It tastes like Chowking’s Nai Cha. A little too strong.

Beef Teriyaki

I love the teriyaki sauce but the beef’s too difficult to chew and the garlic rice needs more garlic?

Chicken Satay.

Didn’t really get a chance to taste this, we took it home for dad. XD

Mom went ahead to buy groceries for father’s day and I went to have my injections. I didn’t get to text my usual nurse and when I arrived at the nurse station, she wasn’t there so a new nurse served. She didn’t have much experience and it was obvious, she had to make sure my vein was really popping whereas my original nurse only needed a subtle hint. The new nurse also kept massaging my vein which I think displaced the needle and made it prick my vein. Since there was pain, she kept checking if we’re still in my vein by backflow and it’s really uncomfortable especially if you do it ALOT. So there, half of my hand swelled.

 It feels like there’s a huge mosquito bite occupying half of my hand and it FRICKIN’ HURTS!

Also, I have good news for Sammy I found his favorite chocolates in SM

 And I was also approached by a Spanish man probably in his 40’s. He said he owns something about aircrafts and told me he can teach me some stuff. I just executed proper business ethics, shook his hand, told him it was a pleasure meeting him. He asked for my number… erk… insisted on giving him my number and I did. He texted me tonight, I don’t know if I’ll reply. XDGood connection? Prolly?

We also met ate Tin. It’s so good to see her again after all this time.

Today’s father’s day T_T I plan on giving a speech in front of our church. I also plan to bake butterscotch brownies. Wish me luck.

I learned something from Kuya Paul. It’s the first time I saw him post stuff like this. I’m really impressed. I’ll be leaving with these quotes. Dunno where he got it but it got to me.

Risks

I like taking risks more now. Sometimes they give me great stuff, sometimes they put me in deep sh!t – one I can’t get out of,  pushes me to my limits, makes me cry, takes all hope away from me,  leaves me with no choice but to be strong, gives me a lesson I can’t learn in school and challenges me to survive. Either way I get something good.

I’m not really brave, but I try to be. I’m not a risk taker by nature; I was born afraid of it. Most of the time I’m scared of a crazy idea but if I think it’s right and ok and I really want to do it, I just close my eyes,  jump in and hope for the best. I fully immerse myself; I experience it until I’m too deep in it to get out. If sh!t happens, I have to face it and live through it. That’s how I train myself to be strong; it’s how I fully experience life. It’s how I test my character.

Sometimes I put myself in situations which I know will hurt me. Most of the time, I know when something’s not going to work out but I still go for it. It’s crazy, I know and yes I’m kind of unlucky but every misfortune is an opportunity in disguise.

Now I’m trying a lot of things to make me feel better about myself. I started taking Chinese and didn’t feel that it’s enough so I’m trying Spanish and I still don’t think it’s enough so I gave myself more things to sink into and I’m now trying photography. It was getting crazy and I couldn’t stop giving myself more things to keep me busy. And one day I just realized that I’m in too deep and I have too much on my plate. I also realized that I’m an awesome person because I’m immersed into these constructive activities and putting myself in this deep sh!t actually made me feel better about myself.

Life is beautiful and crazy. I guess beauty and madness go together naturally. The beauty of life is being complicated and unpredictable – never boring. It goes on and never stops for you; you have to keep up with it. There are so many twists and turns, you’ll never be in too deep.

Things Learned

- The last thing I want to do is hurt the ones I love and that includes you. If I do, I don’t mean it and I’m not aware… please talk about it with me.
- If you promise something, I expect you to keep it. If I don’t see you trying, I won’t try to keep my end of the bargain either.
- I easily get sad and lonely, I’m also insecure but the twist is… you can easily cheer me up if you try.
- After a breakup, I move on usually after half a year-a year later. ’til then, you’re going to have severe problems with me because I tend to carry over my atonement.
- I have PMS every month so when I suddenly get mad, impatient, emo… check the calendar.
- There are three factors that make me emo and depressed: stress, pms, sleepiness. Please comfort me during these times ’cause I’ll comfort you when you need me too.
- When I feel you losing interest I worry - a lot.
- I don’t need constant communication but I do want to be updated with what you do so you better like telling stories and tell them honestly.
- Also, you don’t need to talk to me everyday but when we do talk, I want it to have quality and depth.
- I like martial arts, guns and fight I may look like I can take care of myself but if  you’re around, I want you to protect me and if you’re not around then at least I can take care of myself.
- You’ll never have to worry about me cheating on you.
- I’m open to changing, learning things you like and compromising.
- You can act like a total retard with me.
- I’ll support you with what you do, I might even join you.
- I’m devoted. You’ll be my king.
- I’ll love you not because of the gifts you give or because you’re useful to me.
- Even if you lose your limbs or become a criminal, I’ll stay with you.
- If you want a cake, I’ll learn to make one for you. If you need a massage, I’ll give you one.
- Yes, I look like I can love anyone so why pick? I choose who I want to commit to and then love them.
- I’m not perfect, I try but I will never really be perfect.

Things I’ve learned from Jd:
- If you define love, you give it limitations. So if you say you love someone because she’s hardworking, intelligent, you’ll lose your love if that person becomes useless or mentally challenged. There’s no reason for love
- Trust your man before trusting others. Don’t abandon him when he needs you the most.
- Accept him for who he is.
- Don’t hurt him
- Be careful of the words you use.
- Don’t crush his ego
- Don’t be psychotic

Things I’ve learned from the recent:
- Don’t be demanding
- Don’t be too emotional
- Leave some love for yourself
- Unless he asks for your time, don’t give?
- Take it easy
- You lived separate lives before you met each other.
- Let him enjoy his life as how you enjoy yours

More Personalizations

Yesterday, we had a meeting for Plutopia at Old Spaghetti House, Robinson’s Pioneer. It was just about presenting the new mini-games so Sir Sol did most of the talking. The meeting ended early so there was time for impromptu shopping for Sir Sol’s outfit.

For an hour, Me, Teril and Steven strolled around the department store to look for an outfit that will fit Sir Sol nicely. It was really difficult to look for a good style since sir is young but he’s very mature and he’s thin. Having found nothing at the department store, we went to Topman where, at the last minute, we asked the salesman what would fit our professor nicely. And finally, after an hour, we were able to find/purchase a shirt. We didn’t have time to look for jeans and shoes anymore.

After shopping, I went to S11’s Graduation Party at Glorietta so I can watch Iron Man 2 with them. Btw, the taxi fare was a rip off… a really really big rip off. From my house to DLSU is 90-100php and this guy’s charging me 150php for a ride going from Robinson’s Manila to Glorietta? Hmph…

Ironman2 was great and what made it even better was watching it beside someone hehe.

Today I tried looking for a good email forwarder for my vanity email. I found none that offers a good domain name. What I did find is a new mail service, www.mail.com, which allows you to choose your email’s domain name based on different categories: spiritual, hobbies, jobs, etc. For my vanity email, I chose Spiritual > Angelic.com so now rinoa@rinoa-heartilly.net is replaced with rinoa@angelic.com.

Mail.com Benefits:

- Provides a variety of choices for your email’s domain
- Has a reading pane (like Yahoo!)
- Provides great themes (like google) and they can be randomized too.
- An option to activate a sidebar which allows you to view your inbox at Yahoo! and Google plus more apps. Lovely!

Bad Things:

- Ads are scattered. Can’t they just place the ALL the ads at the header or footer?
- You can only drag and drop to move. For mousepad users like me, that’s troublesome. No point and click option?
- Search is only for the active folder not the whole mailbox.
- NoY!M only AIM which I don’t have and don’t intend to have anytime soon.

The one big problem is: Mail.com does not provide email forwarding services so you really have to use their inbox - which isn’t such a bad thing, actually.

I also personalized my blog hehe. As usual I wanted it to be feminine and gentle so I used Chobits as a main image and some vintage sakura pattern I found using google images. I like the outcome very much. <3

The only problem is I.ph’s incompatibility with Google Chrome so I have to use Firefox to see the layout and the site well.

What I like about I.ph

- Sleek design
- User-friendly interface - good GUI, srsly
- There are also available themes, which IMHO, is better than the themes offered at other blogsites - they’re easily customizable too.
- Fast online customer service
- No annoying ads
- Flikr integration and thumbnail options
- Crosspost

What I don’t like about I.ph

- My older entries disapeared mysteriously.
- No import & export.
- Forum always under construction and no Help
- Lots of errors/downtimes
- Incompatibility with Chrome
- No password protected entries like Wordpress.

 Anyway, mom made strawberry+peach+yogurt mix too. <3

Oh and www.fcmmap.com is up! Yey! This was actually an easy client. Hehe…

Lifechurch

Often I miss my church services because they are offered in the mornings. Having an overbooked & overstressed lifestyle, even my weekends mean work but I have more time for rest and sleep; I’m not a morning person either (I have narcolepsy, I think). Anyway, that’s why I often miss the church service. Sometimes I think I’m being held back but Jesus has come closer to me and my home. When I missed my service again today, I thought I should look for live streaming services (not mass) on the internet- there’s bound to be one. I found Lifechurch, it’s got live streaming, a map showing all countries watching the service, a chatbox so you can talk to the other Christians and they offer notes which you can modify and send to yourself or download, there are even interactive buttons that appear when the preacher asks who wants to raise their hands. The site’s amazing! The preacher’s good too

Earlier today, I looked for themes to personalize my browsers. Only recently have I found my real style hehe… <3 A little inspiration from GW, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Victoria’s Secret, etc .all make up my style. From time to time, I’ll still shift themes though, depending on my mood.

But my browsers aren’t the only ones I’ve decorated. I also decorated my GE characters (their costumes are so expensive… thank goodness they look great).

I also received my reply for my nail art stuff. I’ll be paying for them this week. Erk…Finally I can work on my french tips like an artist. I’ll upload the pics once I buy my nail machine as well.

Before doomsday, I’m grabbing the opportunity to watch Supernatural (season 4 & 5) and Ghost Whisperer (season 5) and play GE as well. I’ve finished GWs5 and SNs4 yesterday.

Ghost Whisperer can get a little boring and predictable… and too ideal but it’s nice to see such a cute dreamy town… and I just adore Melinda’s clothes. Supernatural - hmm… kinda lost its touch. I find the previous seasons better.

 Talked to dad about investing in www.pse.com. So later, I’m going to use what he taught me about investing and start practicing. Ugh… I also have to finish that feasibility study and not to mention the website.

A little while ago I talked to Sammy about cars. I adore Buick Enclave. <333
